The Process of Composition

1. Collaboration with the Director: The composer and director work together to understand the film's vision and the desired emotional and narrative impact of the music. 

2. Composition: The composer writes original musical pieces, known as "cues," which are timed to begin and end at specific points in the film. 

3. Orchestration/Production: The composition is then arranged for instruments, often using a combination of live musicians (like an orchestra) and digital composition software to create the final product. 

4. Recording: The music is performed and recorded by musicians and then mixed into the film's overall sound.
